Hurricane Pack – Camp at Home

Date: 16th Jun 2020 Author: Scout Websites

Hurricane Cubs had our very first camp at home at the end of June and it was a roaring success!

Throughout the day, Cubs (and their parents!) logged onto our Pack’s facebook page where leaders uploaded videos guiding Cubs through various activities. We had an online opening ceremony of our camp and then Cubs participated in a tutorial on how to pack for camp, a camp craft activity to make a cardboard campfire and how to make a zip line in their gardens. In the evening, BBQs were lit and Cubs logged on for a live video from Akela on how to cook a ‘Cowboy Dinner’ backwoods-style. Cubs also cooked a simple meal for their family during the day. After dinner, we had a family quiz and then the highlight of our day – a LIVE campfire with all of the Cubs, parents and leaders each taking turns to lead the Pack in song! Most of the Cubs camped outdoors, with some choosing to make camp indoors – some had to be coaxed away from tents 3 days later!!!

During the camp, the activities allowed Cubs to gain parts of their Outdoor Challenge Badge which they would normally work to whilst on summer camp. They also earned their Chef badge and a nights away level for camping out in their gardens.
